Does Everybody Need Jesus to Make it to Heaven? 

When the pastor of one of America’s largest churches and a popular television preacher, was asked whether non-Christians could go to heaven, he replied: “You know, I’m very careful about saying who would and wouldn’t go to heaven. I don’t know …” He could not declare that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven for Jew and Gentile, Arab and Asian. The truth is, exclusivity can be, and usually is, an ugly thing. But nature is filled with exclusives. Water never boils at 209 or 210; it always waits patiently for 212. It never freezes at 36 or 34 but holds itself in reserve for the magical 32 degrees. 

When liberals try to corner Christians with what they perceive to be the unreasonableness of our insistence that Jesus is the only way to heaven, all we need to do is point to the Scriptures. The same Bible that tells us that we have eternal life through Jesus also tells us that the only way to that life is through Jesus. The apostle John wrote: “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” Jesus declared: “No man comes to the Father except by Me.” Jesus not only declares that He is our only hope; He insists that “…no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father’.’ Those who dislike the idea of Jesus being man’s only hope do not have an argument with us; their argument is with the Bible and with Jesus Himself.

Some may wonder why and how I ever became interested in this subject of overcoming diabetes, and how this relates to my Bible teaching ministry. The why is pretty simple – back in 2001 diabetes came rushing at me like a freight train. It was one of the scariest times of my life. But I did what I always do when under attack – I prayed. And to quote the Scripture: “He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps.” (Psalm 40:2). And when God’s showed me the answer, I had to share it, believing that Jesus sets a great model for ministry, as He went around Israel “teaching, preaching, and healing the sick.”
